This is one of those designs that looks like it shouldn’t quite work, in the sense that the single glyph tessellates together very efficiently with very little room left over. Overall, the design is fairly straightforward, although it was only when I had created the outlines electronically that I could tell how the pieces would fit together when duplicated and rotated.

It’s interesting that the eye readily reads the ascenders of the two ‘l’s, but tends to ignore the same visual elements when they are seen as extended the horizontals of the ‘B’. Without the apparent interweaving and layering that cuts off the horizontals the design would not be as successful.
