ambigram (noun): A typographical design or artform that may be read as one or more words, not only as presented, but also from another viewpoint, direction or orientation.
This design was created for my sister’s birthday, and is an elegant example of a very simple rotational inversion.
I raised the ‘l’ above the ‘i’ by creating a clear border to help to separate the two glyphs; of course, at one and the same time (this is an ambigram after all) this broke the ‘a’ in two, which is why I then added a black border to try and join them up again.
And so by accident I created a much more interesting and lively piece of graphic design.
